How to hire a high-ticket closer without guessing

Closy is a desktop assistant that listens to the sales call and shows the closer the exact line, live, with no bot in the meeting. Created by Mauricio Gallmur.

Direct answer: to hire a high-ticket closer, do not rely on the resume or the interview. Have every candidate close the same 20 to 30 minute mock call with a difficult prospect, and score seven behaviors you can see in the recording. Hire the person who closes well in the test, not the one who talks best about themselves.

Before you post “hiring a high-ticket closer”

Most owners start with a job post: “looking for a high-ticket closer,” “hiring closers, commission only.” The post brings candidates, but it does not tell you who can close. That is why the test comes before the interview, not after.

Why resumes and interviews mislead

A closer talks for a living. In an interview they sell you on themselves, and that tells you nothing about how they respond when the prospect says “I need to think about it” with the price already on the table. The numbers they bring (“I closed this much last year”) depend on the offer, the lead flow and who booked the calls. You cannot verify them, and they do not transfer to your program.

What does transfer is behavior on the call. That can be seen in a test.

The test: one mock call, the same for everyone

  1. Set up a difficult prospect. Someone on your team (or Closy) plays the prospect with a fixed script: a real problem from your market, a money objection and a stalling objection at the end.
  2. Give the candidate your offer sheet 24 hours ahead: what you sell, the price, what is included. Nothing else.
  3. Record the call (20 to 30 minutes) with their permission.
  4. Score each behavior from 0 to 2 using the list below. 0 = does not do it, 1 = partly, 2 = does it without being told.
  5. Compare candidates on the same scenario. If you change the prospect between candidates, the score stops meaning anything.

The 7 behaviors to score

  1. Gets to the pain before the price. They do not say the price until the prospect explains, in their own words, what the problem costs them personally.
  2. Absorbs the objection instead of arguing. Validate, ask, redirect. No debate.
  3. Separates an excuse from a real objection. “I need to think about it,” “I need to talk to my spouse” or “it's too expensive” with nothing else is usually an exit: ask once what is behind it and return to the close.
  4. Stays quiet after the price and after a closing question. Whoever talks first negotiates down.
  5. Gives away nothing nobody asked for. No spontaneous installments or discounts, no urgency, guarantees or deadlines the offer does not have.
  6. Ends with a payment or a specific date and time to decide. “I'll text you next week” does not count.
  7. Speaks with certainty. Sentences that end in a period. No “could,” “would” or “right?” tacked onto every idea.

These are principles from Mauricio Gallmur's Closing Quantum Method. A candidate scoring 11 or more out of 14 closes with judgment; one who hands out payment plans or argues with objections will cost you sales even if the interview went great.

Interview questions for a sales closer that actually help

Keep them few. The test does the heavy lifting. If you want to interview, use these:

Commission or base pay: how to read it

Most high-ticket closer roles are commission-based, sometimes with a small base. Commission aligns incentives, but it also pushes people to close at any cost: payment plans nobody asked for, promises the offer cannot keep. If you pay on commission, review the calls, not just the number. Behavior 5 on the list is the one that protects your margin.

After you hire

The test does not end on day one. Review the first ten real calls with the same seven behaviors and correct one per week. That way, when a problem shows up, you know whether it belongs to the closer, the process or the offer. More on this in how to evaluate a high-ticket salesperson.

Where Closy comes in

Closy is preparing a hiring test: it plays the difficult prospect and scores the candidate's call against these behaviors. It already works inside ChatGPT, Claude and Grok: Closy plugins. Once the closer works with you, Closy listens to the call and shows them the exact line live, with no bot in the meeting. Today it runs as a supervised pilot, in Spanish.
