What to say when a prospect says “it's too expensive”

Closy is a desktop assistant that listens to the sales call and shows the closer the exact line, live, with no bot in the meeting. Created by Mauricio Gallmur.

“It's too expensive” is almost never about the number. It is a doubt about value or a lack of resources, and the two are not answered the same way. The owner loses ticket size when, in that second, the closer offers installments nobody asked for.

The short answer

Do not let your closer drop the price to relieve the silence. Live, they need to ask whether the number feels out of proportion to what it solves, or whether right now the prospect does not have access to those resources. Then stay quiet. The answer decides the next step.

Two different objections under the same words

Value: the prospect does not see what they get in return. Resources: they cannot pay for it now. Treating them the same manufactures discounts and payment plans. The closer feels clever. You watch the ticket drop and the “yes” that never pays.

If the payment option is not written in the offer sheet, it is not mentioned. Inventing installments in the middle of a Zoom call is not closing. It is giving away margin.

What your closer has to do in that second

“I want to make sure I understand. When you say it's a lot, is it that the number feels out of proportion to what it solves, or that right now you genuinely don't have access to those resources?”

Stay quiet. Do not fill the gap. Do not offer installments. Nobody asked for them.

If it is value, go back to what the prospect said the problem is costing them. If it is resources, do not push someone who cannot buy. If it is an exit dressed up as price, the question exposes it.

The mistake that costs the owner the most

The closer hears “expensive” and, to save face, improvises. The prospect did not ask for a payment plan. The owner finds out when the CRM says closed and the bank account did not move, or when the ticket already went out discounted. Managing that on Friday does not recover Tuesday.

When not to fight the number

A weak offer is not saved by one line. A prospect with no ability to buy is not converted by eloquence. The job is to not lose the sales that were yours and to not manufacture a yes that never pays.

Where Closy comes in

Closy shows the closer that line on screen during the call, with no bot joining the meeting. It separates an excuse from a real objection. The closer says it in their own voice, and you can keep your team's script; Closy marks the stage. Closy listens to the call live to give you the line. It does not keep the recording. The current pilot runs in Spanish.
